ZOOM

I’ve been thinking about…

ZOOM!

And Facetime!  With grands in 3 different states, it is quite amazing — and wonderful — to see them almost “in person.”

This week, PopPop and I got to “attend” young John’s concert via zoom.  It was like being in the auditorium, seeing all the darling little ones singing and gesturing and signing a great line up of songs. Later that day, we had a chance to chat with John via Facetime to hear — and see — his feelings about his first concert on a stage in front of a live audience.  (That parents and grandparents could be in the audience is a welcomed indicator that we are a step towards normal as Covid recedes.)

I imagine the wonder that I feel over this amazing technology is what my grandparents experienced with the advent of telephone calls.  Even as a child, I remember how phone calls to Nanny in Texas were a very big deal.  We were limited, by cost, to three minutes. But in that short span, we could enjoy hearing her voice and having immediate gratification that she was well.

Covid has changed so many patterns of our lives.  But in the case of zoom — perhaps for the better.  I don’t mind having zoom meetings rather than having to drive to convene in person.   And I am very grateful that I can enjoy seeing and hearing my family who are miles and miles away.

We miss the hugs and kisses. Sigh. But are very grateful that we can be a presence in their lives, even from a distance.
