I’ve Been Thinking…
… how grateful I am to have this opportunity to share ideas with old and new friends. And I am rather amazed that I have a blog!
I first heard the term “blog” at a National History Day summer conference at the University of Maryland – way back in the late 1990s. The idea of a log, kept and shared online, seemed so “out there.” I remember sharing what I had learned with my principal, who was as intrigued as I with this new idea.
Within months, blogs and blogging were ubiquitous.
And now here I am.
My intent is to “post” (how “with-it” of me!) a couple of times a month. Maybe more as the spirit moves me. Some will be quick thoughts. But knowing myself well, some will be a bit longer! My intent, and hope, is that what I post will be interesting and possibly informative – and perhaps thought-provoking.
You may perceive that I am not a big techie. It takes me a bit to warm to new technology, but once I “get it,” I happily embrace it, celebrating how it enhances my life.
So… here’s to BLOGGING!
The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. The short form, "blog," was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999. Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used "blog" as both a noun and verb ("to blog," meaning "to edit one's weblog or to post to one's weblog") and devised the term "blogger" in connection with Pyra Labs' Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.
